March 14th marks the celebration of Turkish Medical Day, a national holiday in Turkey that commemorates the contributions and achievements of the medical profession in the country. The historical origins of this day can be traced back to the establishment of the Ottoman Medical School on March 14th, 1827.
During the reign of Sultan Mahmud II, there was a need to modernize the Ottoman Empire, and the establishment of a medical school was a significant step towards this goal. The school was established to provide Western-style medical education to Ottoman physicians and improve the quality of medical care in the empire.
Over the years, the Ottoman Medical School underwent several transformations. Today it is known as the Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, one of the leading medical schools in the country. Turkish Medical Day is not only a celebration of the establishment of the medical school but also a tribute to the medical professionals who have worked tirelessly to provide quality healthcare to the people of Turkiye.

On this day, various events and ceremonies are held nationwide to honour the medical profession. The day is an opportunity to recognize the dedication and hard work of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals who have played a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of the Turkish people.
In conclusion, Turkish Medical Day is a day of celebration and appreciation for the medical profession in Turkiye. It serves as a reminder of the critical role that healthcare professionals play in society and the need to support and encourage their work.
